API and MCP server: quick answers

How does the API work?

It is a REST API with exactly two endpoints: one POST to start a transcription and one GET to fetch the result. There is no SDK to install and nothing else to learn. Code examples are on the developers page.

Where do I get an API key?

Sign in and open Account → API. You can create and revoke keys there.

What is the MCP server?

A remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that gives AI assistants direct access to FileToText: your assistant can transcribe a file and use the text in the same conversation. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Cline are supported. Setup instructions are at Account → MCP.

What does API and MCP access cost?

API and MCP access are included with any subscription; the free plan and one-off per-file purchases do not include them. Transcription through the API draws from the same minutes as the web app, at the same prices: see how pricing works. Every purchase is backed by the same no-questions refund.
